What happens when insulation gets wet?

This hotel in North Carolina was hit by a hurricane which caused a lot of its walls to become damaged from the rain and flood water.

We always try to save as much material as possible how ever sadly this insulation had been sat saturated for too long and started to get a musty smell.

When the insulation becomes wet and water accumulates in the air pockets it drastically reduces its insulating function. The water easily conducts any heat, so when the warm air from your home presses up against the insulation it will be conducted straight out your home.

We had to remove the damaged insulation and it will be replaced with new insulation.
